HISTORY
What we now know as Elim Pentecostal Church, was formerly known as Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance. Meetings were first held in North Bondgate, an area close to the hub of the towns retail businesses. Records show that we have been witnessing within the town of Bishop Auckland for nearly 70 years.
A disused Methodist Church in Tenter Street, was purchased in 1941 and services were held there until the building became unsafe and was demolished on July 18th 1977. We then rented St. Peter's (Anglican), Church Hall in Princes Street. This enabled us to continue with our Sunday services, with any mid-week services being held at the then Ministers home in Durham Street.
Local architect, Mr. T. Welch, was the designer of our new home. The building was erected and a formal opening took place on September 4th, 1982, on the site of the old Methodist building, with an address name change, from Tenter Street, to Gibbon Street.
