HISTORY
Escomb Saxon Church dates back to the 7th Century. Much of the stonework is Roman, shown by the 'Diamond Broaching' and the Chancel Arch. The circular churchyard wall, high splayed windows and 'Serpent Sundial', are all features of its Celtic origin. Now restored, it is one of the finest examples of early Christian architecture in Northern Europe. A new graphic display in the porch, depicts the historical and archaeological features providing information for students and school groups, as well as the casual visitor.
Keys for the Church are available from 22, Saxon Green, in the village of Escomb.
